Charity Cup was inaugurated as the Perak Turf Club Charity Cup in 1999 with prizemoney of RM100,000
and run over 2000m.
The first winner
was home trained CINDY'S PET and winning trainer Marinus van
Breukelen made it a double the following year with NOBLE HERO.
In 2003, ASTRO
sponsored the race, pushing the prizemoney to RM250,000. It was
renamed Astro Wah Lai Toi Charity Cup.
That year, Ipoh
trainer Evelyn Seet took home the prize when she saddled SUPREME
ECHO to victory.
In 2004, Marinus
van Breukelen saddled his third winner of the series with SOLO
