Austin wins appeal against suspension

PENANG,  March 22, 2010

Australian jockey Aaron Austin has won his appeal against a two-month suspension for his handling of THE REAL THING in a Class 5 - 1400m sprint here on Dec 19 last year.

THE REAL THING (Traditionally - Quarry by Sky Chase), ridden by Austin, came from second last at the home turn to finish seventh to FIRE GENERAL in the capacity field of 16 runners.  

On Dec 20, the stewards suspended Austin two months and fined him the sum of RM10,000.

The racing stewards of Penang Turf Club heard Austin's appeal today.

After considering submissions from Austin and the chief stipendiary steward, the racing partially allow the appeal, the fine was reduced to RM6,000. Austin's deposit was refunded.
