Capablanca returns to winning ways

It has been a long road back for the 2008 Lion City Cup winner CAPABLANCA, but the patience shown by his connections paid off when the veteran galloper scored a narrow victory in the Open Handicap over 1200m at Kranji here today.

After his Lion City Cup success, CAPABLANCA (Scenic - Ahava by Southern Appeal) picked up just one more win in September 2008 before he was sent for a lengthy spell in Malaysia in the middle of last year.

In resuming this year, CAPABLANCA was placed thrice in seven starts before he accounted for five rivals, which included stablemate and odds-on favourite TUXEDO MOON, today.

CAPABLANCA, who has now won 11 times in 37 starts, was the second leg of a splendid treble for trainer Don Baertschiger who turned 60 on Thursday.
