Jacky Lim suspended two months

PENANG,  May 9, 2010

Apprentice Jacky Lim was today suspended two months for his ride on SUPERB GENIUS in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint here last Saturday.

The Kevin Coetzee-trained SUPERB GENIUS (Stylish Condor - Recall The Rose by Recall The Time) came from well off the pace to finish seventh to POLAR GIRL.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today at the Penang Turf Club, Lim, the rider of SUPERB GENIUS, in the presence of his master Coetzee, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding SUPERB GENIUS in the above race, between the 800m to the 600m, he failed to allow his mount to improve to race in a midfield position as instructed when there was an opportunity to do so.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Lim’s points of mitigation and his record. Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from tomorrow and to expire on July 9, 2010, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
