AMADEUS MOZART staves off the challenge of EXCELIFY - SNTC photo

AMADEUS MOZART returned to winning form after 11 months to create an upset in the Hanshin Racehorse Owners' Association Trophy (Benchmark 97 - 1200m) at Kranji here tonight.

The win ended a run of seven unplaced outings for the Irish gelding and gave jockey Andy Ismail his biggest success.

AMADEUS MOZART (Mozart - Lindesberg by Doyoun), who has only a postage stamp weight of 46kg on his back after a 4kg claim by Andy, allowed former Malaysian galloper PERFECT PINS to lead before overtaking him at the top of the straight. He then held off the challenge of EXCELIFY to win by a neck.

It was the ninth win for AMADEUS MOZART, a 230,000 guineas yearling who failed to score in two seasons in Great Britain when trained by Aiden O'Brien. He was, however, placed second in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh.
