Apprentice Lam fails in appeal

IPOH,  Sep 21, 2010

Apprentice Lam Siew Leong, who only began riding last year and has yet to land a winner, will be out of action for 15 months after he failed in his appeal against disqualification.

Lam was initially disqualified one year for his handling of WISEMAN in the Restricted Maiden - 1200m sprint in Ipoh on Apr 25.

Lam subsequently lodged an appeal which was heard by the Perak Turf Club racing stewards yesterday.

After hearing submissions from Lam, his master, trainer Tan Soo Beng, his counsel and the chief stipendiary steward and after reviewing the films, the racing stewards decided to dismiss his appeal and enhanced SL Lam’s disqualification to a period of fifteen months, effective Apr 25 and to expire on Jul 24 next year, both dates inclusive.

The stewards also ordered that the appeal deposit be forfeited.
