Ace Amigo in shock maiden Malaysian win

KUALA LUMPUR: Sep 11, 2011

Former Singapore galloper ACE AMIGO revived his career with a shock victory — his first in Malaysia — in a Class 4 - 1400m sprint at Sungei Besi here today.

The New Zealand gelding was an useful sort at Kranji where he scored seven wins in three season from 2007 to 2009. But after a dismal 2010, he was transferred to trainer Luke Danis.

ACE AMIGO (Pentire - Forsaken Gold by Tierce) has had 10 starts this season and showed glimpses of his old form with two third placings in July.

Ridden for the first time by Maverick Leong today, the seven-year-old was unfancied in the betting and just edged out another outside MASQUERAIN by a neck to pay RM523 for a win.
