El Dorado scores comeback after 20 months

Two-time Singapore Gold Cup winner EL DORADO bounced back to form after 20 months when he won the Yew Tee Classic Stakes over 1800m at Kranji here tonight.

The Japanese gelding's last success was when he captured the Gold Cup for the second consecutive season in November 2009.

Ridden by Sean Cormack, EL DORADO (Stay Gold - White Leap by White Muzzle) was well off the pace early. There was not much pace for much of the race and EL DORADO was travelling so well after the 800m he quickly moved up on the outside of the other runners to take a slender lead into the straight.

U GOT IT was fighting back gamely on the inside, and PARFUMIER made it three in a line at the 300m. EL DORADO and PARFUMIER drew away in the closing stages to fight it out, with EL DORADO winning by three quarters of a length.

Trained by Hideyuki Takaoka, EL DORADO has now won eight times in 39 outings.
