High-riding Duric and Rehaizat suspend

SINGAPORE:  Sep 27, 2011

Vlad Duric, currently second in the Singapore jockey’s title with 72 winners behind the runaway leader Joao Moreira, has been suspended three months for his handling of MESTI BOLEH in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1600m handicap at Kranji on Sep 9 when MESTI BOLEH was beaten a short head by MY WAY.

The inquiry into the riding of MESTI BOLEH was concluded yesterday. Duric, the rider of MESTI BOLEH, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding MESTI BOLEH, he failed to ride that gelding with sufficient vigour and determination in the straight. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions from Duric that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore race meetings this Friday and Sunday. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday until Jan 2, both dates inclusive (a period of three months). He was advised of his right of appeal.

Duric subsequently exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the stipendiary stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence. The appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.

Tunku Rehaizat, who is third in the apprentice table in Singapore, has also been suspended three months for his handling of ALVITO on Sep 4. The Australian gelding came from last at the home turn to finish fourth to OLD FAITHFUL in a Class 5 - 1900m handicap.

The inquiry into the run of ALVITO was also concluded yesterday. Rehaizat, the rider of ALVITO, in the presence of his master, trainer Desmond Koh, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding ALVITO from near the 400m until the concluding stages, he failed to ride that gelding with sufficient vigour and determination. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions from Rehaizat that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore race meetings this Friday and Sunday. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday until Jan 2, both dates inclusive (a period of three months).
