Jacky Lim dies in car crash

IPOH:  Aug 21, 2011

Malaysian-Singapore racing lost one of its most promising jockeys when Jacky Lim Cheng Woei died in a car accident here this morning.

In the 8.40am incident, the apprentice was negotiating a bend at Jalan Medan Ipoh when he lost control of his car which crashed into a drain. Lim, who is indentured to champion trainer Kevin Coetzee here, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot.

Lim, who hailed from Butterworth, was not in Penang for the races this weekend as he was serving a two-month suspension.

Lim created history in April 2007 when he rode five winners in one afternoon in Ipoh.

Lim won his first race last year when successful on GOOD NATURE in the Selangor Gold Cup, a feat he repeated on the same horse this year. He also won the Coronation Cup on SPEED BABY last year.
