Three-month permit for Glen Boss

SINGAPORE:  April 19, 2010

Three-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss has been granted a three-month Club Jockey licence by the Singapore Turf Club and will be in action at Kranji from next week.

The Australian jockey, who has ridden extensively overseas, will ride through until July 31.

Boss, who partnered the champion mare MAKYBE DIVA (Desert King - Tugela by Riverman) to three consecutive Melbourne Cups victories in 2003, 2004 and 2005, has also won the Golden Slipper Stakes (FLYING SPUR, 1995 and SEBRING, 2008) and Cox Plate (MAKYBE DIVA, 2005 and SO YOU THINK, 2009) twice each.

He has ridden 63 winners to date in Australia during the 2010/11 season at a healthy strike rate of just over 13% and currently sits in eighth position on the Melbourne premiership with 24 winners.

The 40 year-old has been a visitor to Singapore in recent years and last year added the Singapore Gold Cup aboard RISKY BUSINESS (Danehill Dancer - Sky Watch by Star Watch) to his tally of winners.

In total Boss has ridden more that 1,900 winners in a career spanning 24 years and currently goes to scale at 53kg.

Meanwhile, another top Australian jockey Steven Arnold will be in action at Kranji this Sunday.

The 36-year-old Melbourne-based rider has been booked to ride ZAC INFLUENCE (Rock Of Gibraltar - Kidman by Quest For Fame) for trainer Cliff Brown in the Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic. He has been granted a one-day visiting jockey’s licence.

Besides his home land, the well-travelled jockey has ridden with success in many countries namely England, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and Macau.

Arnold has more than 1,000 winners to his credit, with over 70 scored at Group level. Among his most famous wins are the Group 1 Cox Plate last year with one of Australia’s best horses in recent years, SO YOU THINK (High Chaparral - Triassic by Tights) and the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot (England) with SCENIC BLAST (Scenic - Daughters Charm by Delgado) in 2009. He goes to scale at 55 kgs.
