Joseph See disqualified one year

SINGAPORE:  Aug 11, 2011

Apprentice Joseph See was yesterday handed a one-year disqualification for his handling of LOOK AT ME in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1400m handicap at Kranji on July 29.

The Australian gelding finished second, beaten one length by PINK CHEETAH.

The inquiry into the running and riding of LOOK AT ME in the above race was concluded yesterday. After taking evidence from See, his master, trainer Tan Hor Khoon and trainer John O’Hara, the trainer of LOOK AT ME, See was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge are:

1. in that near the 300m, after establishing a position on LOOK AT ME to the outside of MY NEW MAN (B Vorster), he directed his mount inwards behind that gelding until near the 200m, thereby resulting in his mount being unable to improve when it was reasonable and permissible to maintain his position to the outside of MY NEW MAN in order to obtain a clear run; and

2. in that after coming to the outside of MY NEW MAN near the 200m, he failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination until near the 100m.

App See was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from yesterday to Aug 9, 2012, both dates inclusive and was advised of his right of appeal.

See exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him today. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence. The appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.
