Lizarre gallops into Gold Cup picture

LIZARRE (Jet Master - Leading Dame by Jallad) galloped into the picture for the Singapore Gold Cup with a gutsy win in the S$150,000 Mandai Classic Stakes over 2200m at Kranji here today.

Ridden by Barend Vorster, the former South African galloper was tucked behind the pace early, then shot to the front at the top of the straight. He then held on to beat HONEST BROKER by short head with the early pacemaker GORDON ROBERTS just a length away third.

LIZARRE was a stakes winner of three races from 1200m to 1600m in South Africa and was third in the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas (2000m). Today's race is run over the Gold Cup course and distance and proved a perfect tune-up for the blue riband event in a fortnight's time. He has now chalked up two wins and two seconds in as many starts at Kranji.

"He’s got a lot of class about him and stays very well. When the business end comes around he’s a horse that keeps giving and giving. I would like to think that he will be my Gold Cup ride," said Vorster.
