Jamal Mailk upsets in Stewards' Cup

JAMAL MALIK upset the raging odds-on favourite BETTER THAN EVER to win the S$300,000 Stewards' Cup over 1400m at Kranji here today.

BETTER THAN EVER, who only two defeats in 16 starts came in the Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) last November and the Dubai Duty Free (1800m) in March, was backed as if he could not lose the Singapore Group 2 event, the first leg of the Singapore 4YO Challenge.

But JAMAL MALIK (Not For Sale - Capela Da Medalha), ridden by Barend Vorster, raced past him 300m out to win by one and three quarters. He paid $157 for a win.

JAMAL MALIK won once from seven starts in his native Argentina and has now chalked up seven wins in 19 outings in Singapore.

The next leg of the 4YO Challenge is the Patrons' Bowl (1600m) in three weeks' time and the final leg is the Singapore Derby (2000m) next month.
