Top Irish McDonogh jockey to ride at Kranji

SINGAPORE:  Nov 3, 2011

Irish jockey Declan McDonogh will join the Kranji riding ranks for three months from Nov 26.

Currently licensed by the Irish Turf Club, McDonogh, 31, is the son of successful Irish jumps trainer Des McDonogh, better remembered for his association with dual Champion hurdler MONKSFIELD (Gala Performance - Regina by Green Desert), while his mother Helen was a very accomplished rider herself.

McDonogh started riding at 15 and rode his first winner for his father at Leopardstown in June 1995. After a quick rise to the top echelon, McDonogh was crowned Irish champion jockey in 2006.

He was runner-up in the next season and has actually always finished in the top five in Ireland since 2004. He currently sits sixth on this year’s premiership on 44 winners.

McDonogh, who rides mainly for Irish trainers Kevin Prendergast and Ken Condon, has ridden in excess of 640 winners including 34 at Group level, including three Group 1s.

After his first Group 1 victory came aboard REBELLINE (Robellino - Fleeting Rainbow by Rainbow Quest) in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in 2002, McDonogh won at the highest level again when landing the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes with TERMAGANT (Powerscourt - Rock Salt by Selkirk) and the Group 1 National Stakes with KINGSFORT (War Chant - Princess Kris by Kris) in 2009.

McDonogh goes to scale at 54kg.
