Lee Soo Hin suspended four months and fined

IPOH:  Jan 29, 2011

Jockey Lee Soo Hin was today suspended four months and fined RM20,000 for his handling of SURE WE CAN in a Class 3 - 1200m sprint here last Sunday.

SURE WE CAN, trained by Jerome Tan, came from a long way back to finish fourth to HAPPY & SMILE.

At the Perak Turf Club here today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of SURE WE CAN in the above race. Evidence was taken from Lee, the rider of SURE WE CAN, and trainer Tan.

Lee was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that after being slightly interfered by MASTER MAGIC at approximately the 700m mark, he thereafter failed to make sufficient effort from that point until approximately the 250m to make up the lost ground which resulted in his mount racing further back in the field.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Lee’s points of mitigation and his record. Lee was suspended from riding in races for a period of four months with effect from tomorrow to May 29, both days inclusive. In addition, he was also fined the sum of RM20,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.
