Two newcomers make their marks

Two former New Zealand gallopers were quick to make their marks in Singapore by winning their debut in contrasting styles at Kranji here today.

POLAR SPIRIT (Bel Esprit - Polar Sky by Hurricane Sky), who had a win and a second in five starts as a juvenile, romped home by four lengths, defeating the odds-on favourite ACE ALARDE, in the Class 4, Div 2 - 1200m sprint.

SARONG (Exceed And Excel - Wrap Around by Bletchingly), who managed a third in two starts also as a juvenile, had to dig deep to win by a neck in the Initiation - 1000m sprint on the polytrack.

Leading jockey Vlad Duric chalked up his 13th win of the season on BY LAW (Keeper - Unabelle by Omnicorp) but will have to sit out five meetings after next week's races after picking up a suspension for careless riding on KIRIN AIRISING during Friday's races.
