Moreira leave it late with double

After finding one to beat six times in seven races, Joao Moreira finally found better fortunes in the final two races at Kranji this evening to land a well deserved double, and inched closer to the magical 200 mark.

And the Brazilian jockey had to work hard for his breakthrough win on CHIEF SECRETARY (Johar - Anakela Bay by Fairy King) in the Class 4 - 1900m handicap.

The New Zealand gelding, who started favourite, had to come from a long way back in the early running to snatch victory by a neck for his fourth success in 43 starts.

Moreira then had a much easier time on MR MANI (Lonhro - Virago by Danehill) who coasted home by one and three quarter lengths in the Class 3 - 1200m sprint.

It was the third win in six starts for the Australian four-year-old but his first partnership with Moreira.
