War Affair wins Newgate Farm Stakes

WAR AFFAIR, the top two-year-old this year with wins in the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe and Juvenile Championship, has carried on that form to win the first two legs of the inaugural More Magic 3YO Championship Series.

The New Zealand gelding won the first leg, the Premier Racing Partnerships Stakes (1200m), three weeks ago and had no difficulty stepping up to 1400m in the S$100,000 Newgate Farm Stakes at Kranji here today.

And judging from the way WAR AFFAIR accounted for his five rivals today, he will have no problem making a clean sweep in the final leg, the Group 3 $150,000 More Magic Ready To Run Sales 2013 Championship (1600m) on Oct 13.

Ridden by Joao Moreira once again, WAR AFFAIR was last early and had one runner behind him from the 800m till the top of the straight. The O'Reilly gelding swept past the field in a matter of strides and although hanging in slightly, drew away to win by two and a quarter lengths.

It was his fifth consecutive win and his only defeat came in his debut when he finished fourth.

"This horse will keep improving with more distance. It (the third leg) will be his first time over the mile, but the way he is going, it should not be a problem for him at all," said trained Mark Walker.
