The Penang Turf Club has called off the races on May 5, the final day of their April/May meeting, as it coincides with polling day in Malaysia.

However, dwindling horse population in Malaysia also forces the Perak and Selangor Turf Club to cancel six other race days this year. These are:

Saturday, May 11, Selangor
Saturday, Jun 1, Selangor
Saturday, Jun 29, Perak
Saturday, Sep 7, Perak
Saturday, Sep 14, Selangor
Sunday, Oct 20, Selangor

The current Perak Turf Club April Derby Meeting has been hard hit with the club barely able to stage 13 races this weekend, six on Saturday and seven on Sunday.

It is expected that the trend will continue for the rest for the year, especially for races in Penang and Perak. The bulk of the horse population are based in Selangor.
