Apprentice Chung suspended two months

IPOH:  Apr 12, 2013

Apprentice Chung Wah Thong was today suspended two months for his handling of HORIZON LAD in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap in Penang on Mar 16.

HORIZON LAD, trained by Evelyn Seet, started joint favourite and finished fourth to SENTOSA.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the ride of App WT Chung in the above race here today.

Further evidence was taken from Chung, in the presence of his master, trainer Dr SH Tan and trainer Evelyn Seet, the trainer of HORIZON LAD.

After viewing the films and hearing all the evidence, Chung pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards under MRA Rule 44(10) in that in the early stages of the race, he failed to make sufficient effort to hold his position to settle midfield as instructed.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Chung’s guilty plea, his riding record and his forthright evidence. Chung’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months, with effect from Monday to Jun 14, both dates inclusive to be served concurrently with his 4-day suspension for careless riding. He was advised of his right of appeal.
