Edwards starts with two runners

KUALA LUMPUR:  Feb 10, 2013

Shane Edwards

Australian trainer Shane Allen Edwards, who was granted a MRA licence last October, will saddle his first runner in MONSILI (Dansili - Mountcat by Mountain Cat) on the first day of the Selangor Turf Club Tunku Gold Cup meeting on Monday.

The next day, the 38-year-old will send out REBEL FURY to contest the RM500,000 Tunku Gold Cup (1200m).

MONSILI has a win from nine starts while REBEL FURY won seven times in 22 starts for Edwards in Perth.

The two newcomers are among 13 horses Edwards registered with the MRA recently. He has been allocated 40 stalls by the Selangor Turf Club.

Shane Edwards began his career racing at Edgerton Stud over 20 years ago under the guidance of John Roberts and father David Edwards. Shane was the private trainer for Roberts.

With the passing of Roberts in June 2006, Egerton Stud evolved into a public training operation. Shane then moved to train out of Ascot for many years and achieved great success with only small team of horses.

He forged a name for himself in WA Racing circles with his biggest win coming in the Group 1 Karrakatta Plate with NO QUESTIONS (Xaar - Sorboniere - Kenmare).

He also won the Group 2 Perth Cup with GUEST WING (Right Wing - Lacienne by Metal Storm) and the Group 3 West Australian Oaks twice with WESTERLY BREEZE (Dr Johnson - Miss Thunderbolt by Thunder Gulch) in 2007 and CASSANDARA SHADOW (Johannesburg - Pentamerous by Pentire) in 2009.
