Huka Falls passes first big test in style

Fast-improving HUKA FALLS passed his first big test with flying colours in a fairly strong Open Handicap event over 1200m at Kranji here today.

Trainer Laurie Laxon, just back after attending the sales in New Zealand, watched the three-year-old dictated terms from the start and coasted home by one and a quarter lengths, clocking a time of 1min 9.49secs on a rain-affected 'yielding' track.

It was the seventh win in eight starts for the New Zealand gelding who was passed in at NZ$45,000 at the Ready To Run sale.

"I have to say I wasn’t confident at all when it rained today. The only time he ran on a wet track, he failed badly," said Laxon. "Then again, it was over 1400m while today he was running over 1200m and he had no weight on his back."

HUKA FALLS was the middle leg of a treble for Joao Moreira who brought his tally to 23 for the season.
