Makkura wins Paititi Gold Trophy

MAKKURA leads the field home in the Paititi Gold Trophy

MAKKURA took advantage of a huge pull in the handicap to beat two heavyweights to win the Group 3 S$200,000 Paititi Gold Trophy over 1200m at Kranji here today.

With just 50kg on his back, the New Zealand mare was able to out-sprint the gallant MR BIG who had the huge impost of 59kg in the handicap race. SPEEDY CAT, who carried 57kg, finished third.

It was a welcome change of luck for jockey Saifudin Ismail who has been plagued by suspensions and injuries this season. It was only his fourth win of the year in Singapore.

MAKKURA finished third to EL MILAGRO in the Group 3 Kranji Sprint (1200m) last April and soon after was transferred to Laurie Laxon who has now saddled him five times for three wins and two thirds.

"She’s also very versatile, having proven herself on the turf and the polytrack," said Laxon. All his previous seven wins had been on the polytrack.
