Mr Big looms large in Junbo Jet Trophy

Australian jockey Corey Brown signalled his return to riding in Singapore this week in the best possible manner when he piloted MR BIG to victory in the S$200,000 Jumbo Jet Trophy at Kranji here today.

The weight-for-age contest also saw a return to the winner's circle for MR BIG, who won three Singapore Group 3 races last year and also crossed the causeway to win the RM1mil Malaysia Magic Millions Classic in Penang.

After a fruitless trip to Dubai, MR BIG started four times on his return to register second placing in the Group 1 Lion City Cup and Group 3 Paititi Gold Trophy.

Brown, who partnered him in these two races before going off to France for a short stint, found a resurgent MR BIG who made most of the running to win by two lengths and a quarter.

It was also the first time the Australian gelding was tested beyond 1200m in 25 starts and his 11th win.

"Maybe we should have tried him over 1400m a bit earlier,” said trainer Michael Freedman. “There had been some genuine reasons for his last couple of defeats, but today he showed us he was right back to his best."
