Murphy and Bonilla get maiden win

KUALA LUMPUR: May 18, 2013

Irish trainer Daniel Murphy is finally off the mark in his latest comeback to the local circuit when he saddled GOLDEN QUEST to victory in a Class 4 - 1300m handicap here today.

And the five-year-old was ridden by French jockey Davy Bonilla whose six-month stint in Singapore which ended in April netted him just seven winners, although he started off with five winners in two months at the tail-end of last year.

Bonilla is hoping for better luck in Malaysia and is off to an encouragin start with five rides today.

GOLDEN QUEST started odds-on favourite and came from a long way back in the early running to win drawing away by one and a quarter lengths.

Murphy has previously trained in Penang, Singapore and also Sungei Besi before coming back again last December for another try. But the path to success has not been easy. GOLDEN QUEST was only his fifth runner after all these months.

GOLDEN QUEST, a winner of three races in Argentina, failed to reproduce that form in Singapore, managing only two third placings in 12 starts at Kranji.

Since joining Murphy, he has raced twice for a fourth and a win today but for Murphy, the quest for his first official winner goes on, as does Bonilla.

The results for today's meeting will not be included in the trainer's statistic for the season as the meeting caters to home based horses only.
