Jockey Nizam suspended three months

Jockey Mohamed Nizam Abdul Jabah (J Nizam) was today handed a three-month suspension for his ride on YES CLUB (Dubleo - Sunstroke by Desert Sun) in the Wilayah Silver Bown (Class 3 - 1200m) at Sungei Besi here last Sunday.

YES CLUB, trained by Shane Edwards, was alwayds in the rear bunch and finished 12th to MAN OF SUBSTANCE.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into Nizam’s ride on YES CLUB at the Selangor Turf Club today when evidence was taken from Nizam and Edwards.

Nizam pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. The Stewards were not satisfied that he made sufficient effort to carry out his instructions and make a reasonable effort to get cover and to avoid racing wide particularly down the back straight between the 1000m and the 800m;

2. The Stewards were not satisfied that the horse was hanging out to the degree he stated; and

3. He covered unnecessary ground and made insufficient effort to avoid that.

When deciding on penalty, the stewards took into consideration Nizam’s guilty plea, his points of mitigation and previous record. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Nizam’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months from Mar 31 to Jun 30, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM10,000 and advised of his right of appeal.
