Manny Pacuaio lands knockout punch

MANNY PACUIAO punched his way to his first win at Kranji by the narrowest of margins in the Class 4, Div 1 - 1200m sprint here today.

The six-year-old raced nine times in his native New Zealand for a win over 1300m and had a promising start in Singapore when he finished third in his debut back in March.

But MANNY PACUIAO managed to pick up only a second placing in his next seven starts until he upset the form book today.

Ridden by apprentice Tan Wei Li, the gelding came from a long way back in the running to nail PACINO by a nose with the odds-on favourite FARETTI in third place.

"I got checked when they slowed down the pace from the 800m to the 600m," Tan explained why he was so far back in the early running. "When the gap opened, I went for it but I still didn’t think he would get there in time."

There was also a first win in Singapore for EISENHEIM, who managed a win from eight starts in Australia, while FAALTLESS and ORAKEI KORAKO triumphed in their racing debut.
