It was an up-and-down evening for champion jockey Joao Moreira at Kranji here tonight.

Unfortunately for his legions of followers, it was mostly down. But the Brazilian did reward them with a late double.

After failing to score on five well-backed horses including two odds-on favorites (TAKIS and TIM), Moreira finally got on the score-sheet when he booted home SUPER SHADOW to victory in the Class 4, Div 1 - 1200m sprint on the polytrack.

Moreira had piloted the three-year-old to victory back in October and since then the gelding has have two more runs for a second.

"He’s been overracing a bit as we stepped him up in distance," said trainer Michael Freedman. "Joao told me maybe we should put blinkers on to keep him more focused and it’s paid off tonight."

SUPER SHADOW, who cost NZ$320,000 as a yearling, has now managed three wins and a second in six starts.

Moreira was beaten on another favourite before bouncing back to win the last event on WORK AHEAD, a gelding he was riding for the first time. It was the third win in 13 starts for the American four-year-old.
