Sorrentino to make Malaysian debut

KUALA LUMPUR:  Feb 10, 2013

Italian jockey Luca Sorrentino is set to make his Malaysian debut at Sungei Besi tomorrow, the first day of the Selangor Turf Club Tunku Gold Cup meeting.

The 45-year-old has been nominated on three horses, PETORIA, BOOK OF KELLS and FEARLESS ELITE.

PETORIA (Jet Spur - Cor Corz by Stravinsky) has an excellent chance of giving him a winning start as the three-year-old, trained by Mohd Sukri, was a last-start second on the same track last month.

Sorrentino was crowned champion apprentice in Italy in 1985 and during the late 80s won such races as the Group 2 Premio Regina Elena (Italy 1000 Guineas) on LONELY BIRD (Storm Bird - Reinvestment by Key To The Mint) in 1988.

He also won the Group 3 Premio Ambrosiano astride TISSERAND (Nadjar - Tandina by Claude) in 1990 and the Group 3 Premio Carlo e Francesco Aloisi on board PIERO GARDINO (Faraway Times - Second Movement by Music Boy) in 1989.

Sorrentino also rode in various parts of Europe, South Africa and Dubai and counts Group 1 wins among his career 1,197 winners.
