Djulkifli and Deneskumar guilty of drug abuse

Jockey Mohammad Djulkifli and apprentice rider Paskaran Deneskumar both pleaded guilty to drug abuse today and were disqualified one year and suspended four months respectively.

At the conclusion of an inquiry at the Perak Turf Club, evidence was taken from Djulkifli (who was assisted by Senior High Court Interpreter Ahmad Saifuddin bin Mohamed), Prof. Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr Tan Teong Heong, the Club Medical Officer.

Djulkifli pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge was that a urine sample coded "J6040" submitted by him on Jul 13 at the Penang Turf Club July Meeting 2014, on analysis, revealed the presence of "Methamphetamine & metabolite", which are prohibited substances in terms of the MRA rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the nature of the drug, mitigating factors and his previous record. Djulkifli was disqualified for a period of one year, backdated to the day he was stood down on Jul 25 and to expire on Jul 24, 2015, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

In another inquiry, evidence was taken from Deneskumar, in the presence of his master Trainer Lawson Moy, Prof. Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr Tan Teong Heong, the Club Medical Officer.

Deneskumar, in the presence of Moy, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded "J2777" submitted by him on Jul 20 at the Perak Turf Club July Gold Vase Meeting 2014, on analysis, revealed the presence of "Furosemide", which is a prohibited substance in terms of the MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, mitigating factors and the circumstances of the case. Deneskumar was suspended from riding in races for a period of four months backdated to when he was stood down from performing his duties on Aug 3 to Dec 2, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
