Comeback win for Doraemon after four years

DORAEMON ended 50 months of disappointments when he scored a comeback win in the Kranji Stakes D, Div 1 - 1000m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji tonight.

Ridden by apprentice Chan Wei Sheng, the nine-year-old settled second on the outside of HAPPY PRINCESS but raced past the leader with easy at the home bend to win by one and a half lengths, ending a 42-run losing sequence.

DORAEMON started out very promisingly in 2009 when he won four races and was placed twice in seven starts. It was all downhill for the Australian gelding after his last win in September 2010.

To the credit of his owners Arowana Stable, they kept their faith in the gelding which was racing for just the fourth time this season after a nine-month break.

"He’s a Poly horse who’s had many leg problems over the years, but the owner is very patient and has always liked him," said trainer Leslie Khoo.
