Brighter days ahead for Dark Matter

KUALA LUMPUR:  Oct 12, 2014

DARK MATTER, who started second favourite and finished a smack-up sixth in the first leg over 1200m last month, came into his own to win the second leg of the Carlsberg Cup series over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by Jose De Souza, the talented Australian gelding who has suffered several setbacks in the career beat the favourite REBEL FURY, who had finished third in the first leg, by one and a quarter lengths.

The former Singapore galloper resurfaced in Malaysia last month after nearly one year of the action and won first-up over 1100m for new trainer Frank Maynard.

But his his first leg failure proved to be only a temporary setback in his most recent comeback.

DARK MATTER won four of eight starts in Singapore in 2011 and then had successful in Dubai in early 2012 where he win two of four starts.

The gelding, bought for A$140,000 as a yearling, was sidelined for one and a half years before making a comeback in August last year, winning first-up in Kuala Lumpur.

He promptly returned to Singapore and had three unplaced starts before making another comeback in Malaysia.

The final leg of the Carlsberg Cup will be run over 1600m on Nov 1.
