New trainer Lawson Moy gets early win

KUALA LUMPUR: Apr 6, 2014

Just a week after making his debut, newly-licensed trainer Lawson Moy is off the mark after saddling JP REGIS to win the opening event at Sungei Besi here today.

Having his second run for Moy, JP REGIS improved on his ninth placing over 1400m last week, coming from well off the pace early to win over 1200m for his maiden win in nine starts.

Moy Moy started out in horseracing in his native Singapore working for South African trainer Patrick Shaw for two years and eight-times Singapore champion Laurie Laxon for one year before moving on to Melbourne where he spent a year studying Equine Management at the Marcus Oldham Collage as part of the S.T.A.R (Singapore Training Academy for Racing) Program run by the Singapore Turf Club.

On returning to Singapore in 2009, Lawson became a B Trainer, firstly to Bruce Marsh, where he stayed for two years, and worked for Steven Gray in the same capacity until 2011 when he moved to KL and joined forces with Tony Yeoh until he was granted his A liecence late last month.
