Up-and-coming Australian jockey Nathan Berry, 22, will begin his four-month Singapore stint with three rides — SERPICO, RUSTY BROWN and WHAT’S DAT — at Kranji on Sunday.

His twin brother Tommy has already tasted success at Kranji when piloting TROPAIOS to victory in the Group 1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup during a flying one-day visit last November.

On Jan 11, Nathan scored the biggest win of career yet when he partnered UNENCUMBERED to win the A$2mil Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast, emulating his brother who won the race twice.

Tommy is currently the No 1 rider for Sydney champion trainer Gai Waterhouse and the twins’ father Kevin is a respected horse trainer in Sydney.

Based in Sydney, Nathan has ridden for six years and collected over 300 winners, including success at Group level when he triumphed in the Group 3 Tatt’s Club Tramway Stakes aboard MALAVIO and Group 3 NSW Run To The Rose aboard VA PENSIEO last year.

A top-15 finisher on the Sydney Metropolitan premiership in the past five seasons, Nathan married Whitney, champion jockey Glyn Schofield, on Feb 2 but will be in Singapore without his new bride.

"Whitney has her dance school business so she can’t come over with me but we have discussed it and we both realise this is a good career move for me," Nathan told the press in Australia.

"The overseas experience will make me a better rider. I’m looking forward to the challenge’’

Nathan's permit in Singapore runs from Mar 1 to June 30.
