Golden Knight and trainer Wee pull out

IPOH:  Jan 18, 2014

Golden Knight Stable, champion owner several times in Malaysia in recent times, is scaling back their huge string of horses in a big way and will eventually pull of of racing altogether.

Its principal, Datuk Beh Chin Pheng, who was bestowed a datukship by the Sultan Of Kedah last year, has not attended races for some time.

Multiple times champion jockey Azhar Ismail, who was responsible with many of his big wins in recent years, parted ways with him recently.

Beh has sold many of his horses in recent weeks and retains only a small string of horses. Only a couple EASY FLYING and GOOD RECOMMEND remain under Kevin Coetzee with whom he has struck up a formidable partnership in recent years.

The rest have gone to other trainers, notably David Miller in Penang.

Another big name to pull out of the scene is trainer Wee Mung Hua which has come as a surprise to many.

Wee obtained in licence in 2011 when based in Kuala Lumpur and saddled three winners that year. But he soon established himself as one of the leading trainers, finishing sixth in the table with 40 winners in 2012 and moved to Penang.

Last year, Sarawak-born Wee saddled 32 winners, coming in seventh in the table.

Since the start of the year, Wee has transferred all but three of his horses to other trainers and has not field a single runner in the three weeks since the new season started.
