Bright Life shines in Penang Gold Cup

Consistent and much improved galloper BRIGHT LIFE deservingly captured the final feature race of the season, the RM350,000 Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup here today, the final day of the 2015 racing season in Malaysia.

The win provided a fitting end to the season for leading jockey Jose De Souza and trainer Richard Lines.

After his unplaced debut in August last year, the Australian gelding has been out of the money only once in 12 starts, and that was when he finished fourth to LITTLEBITOFJOY in the Perak Derby last April.

Given a spell after that first attempt at a big race, BRIGHT LIFE came back stronger than ever, winning his both his two runs last month before tackling the Gold Cup today.

De Souza had the five-year-old a handy third early but took the gelding to the front passing the 800m in a race run in driving rain.

BRIGHT LIFE led into the straight chased by Malaysian bred BEAUTIFUL CHOICE on his outside and the pair drew away from the rest in the run home with BRIGHT LIFE winning by 1 3/4 lengths.

Two-time Perak Derby winner LITTLEBITOFJOY was six lengths away third.

BRIGHT LIFE has now six wins, five seconds and a third from 14 starts for Tivic Stable and Lines.
