Selangor and Perak call off races

KUALA LUMPUR:  Aug 27, 2015

The Selangor and Perak Turf Clubs have called off their respective meeting on Sep 5 and 6.

This follow the cancellation of the Penang meeting this Sunday as a result of the the outbreak of severe respiratory disease at the Perak and Selangor Turf Clubs.

At the Selangor Turf Club, 40 of the 500 horses were down with Equine Influenza while in Perak, about 10 of the 250 horses there were also affected.

In Penang, only cases were detected thus.

Samples taken from the affected horses are being sent to Singapore and overseas to determine the organism which is causing the disease.

As a result of the outbreak, there is a ban on the movement of horses in the country.

In Selangor and Perak, horses are confined to their respective stables. All facilities such as horse walks, rolling box and the tracks are closed.

The three Malaysian turf clubs will meet today to discuss the situation.
