Royal Tudor disqualified from second placing

IPOH:  Aug 9, 2015

ROYAL TUDOR, who finished second to BIG LIGHTNING in a Class 4 - 1200m sprint here on Jul 18, has been disqualified from the race after the gelding's post-race urine sample returned positive to "testosterone".

The Stipendiary Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter today.

Evidence were taken from Evert Van Breukelen, the trainer of ROYAL TUDOR, Senior Veterinary Surgeon, PRTC, Dr Alistair Murdoch and Ms. Chan Sue Hay, Analyst, USains Veterinary Forensic Laboratory.

Evert Van Breukelen was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) and punishable under MRA Rule 134(7) in that he, as the trainer and person responsible for accepting to run ROYAL TUDOR in the above race, which finished 2nd and its post-race urine sample coded "16824" subsequently upon analysis, having returned positive to Testosterone, a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.

When deciding on a penalty, the Stewards took into account van Breukelen’s mitigating factors and his previous record.  Van Breukelen was fined a sum of RM10,000. He was informed of his right of appeal.

In addition, in terms of MRA Rule 134(11), ROYAL TUDOR was disqualified from the above race and the results will be amended accordingly.
