Fadzlei suspended three months

KUALA LUMPUR:  Jan 27, 2015

Jockey Mohd Fadzlei Ismail was today handed a three-month suspension for his ride on NINE POINT in a Class 4 - 1200m sprint at Sungei Besi here last Saturday.

NINE POINT finished ninth of 12 runners to CHASE THE DREAM.

The Stewards at the Selangor Turf Club, today concluded an inquiry into the reasons NINE POINT was slow to begin and the tactics adopted during the event.

After taking further evidence from Fadzlei, the rider of NINE POINT, and jockey HS Gill, who was called as a witness and viewing the official patrol films, Fadzlei was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. He failed to allow NINE POINT to jump in the usual manner and as a result, he restrained his horse upon jumping which contributed to it missing the start; and

2. The Stewards also agreed that from the 200m in the home straight, he failed to show sufficient vigour while riding hands and heels or show sufficient vigour use of the whip to allow his horse to finish in the best possible placing in the field.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Fadzlei’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Fadzlei’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months from Feb 2 to May 1, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM10,000 and advised of his right of appeal.
