GOLIATH ended an exasperating 14 months during which he managed just one placing when he easily won the Benchmark 83 - 1700m handicap on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

After winning the Group 3 Marsiling Classic Stakes (1800m) on March 23 last year, the New Zealand gelding has been competing against much stronger opposition and his only showing was a second placing in the Group 3 Causeway Classic Stakes (1800m) last August.

In his third outing in non black-type races since last month, GOLIATH showed too much lass for his rivals tonight when he romped home by three lengths with Michael Rodd on board.

"The horse has had a lot of problems since Derby Day last year," said trainer Steven Burridge. "He has lost a bit of form since then and it has taken a while for him to get back on track. His last run (fifth) was good though, so coming into today’s race, I believe he had a good run coming."

It was the eighth win in 34 starts for GOLIATH.
