Two new riders join Singapore ranks

SINGAPORE:  Aug 26, 2015

Australian jockey Timothy Bell and Brazilian Antonio Davielson Correira da Silva will join the Singapore riding ranks from Sep 14 till the end of the year.

Bell, 22, who recently rode at the Juvenile Championship meeting, is Brisbane’s champion jockey two seasons back, boasting more than 620 winners in seven years of riding. His most notable wins are the Group 1 Queensland Oaks with TINTO, the Group 2 Queensland Guineas with SIR MOMENTS and the Group 2 QTC Cup with SACRED STAR, all won last year.

Currently licensed by Queensland Racing, Bell claimed his first Queensland metropolitan jockey title in the 2013/2014 season when he finished on top on 58 wins, two wins clear of Michael Cahill. He finished runner-up in last season’s premiership on 57 wins, 14 wins behind champion jockey Jim Byrne.

Bell rode one winner at Kranji on Jul 26. He was booked by trainer Steven Burridge for the ride on LIM’S SHOWCASE in the Group 3 Juvenile Championship, but scored in another race aboard another Burridge-trained galloper, LIM’S SPRINT. He goes to scale at 50kgs.

Da Silva, 27, boasts an 11-year-long career in his native Brazil, mainly at Sao Paulo where he has ridden in excess of 700 winners. Among his career highlights are seven Group 1 wins, including the Grande Premio Derby, two Grande Premio Ipiranga’s and the Grande Premio Farwell. He also has ten Group 2 and 3 wins as well as 11 Listed race wins under his belt.

Da Silva, who goes to scale at 53kgs, finished eighth on the Sao Paulo jockey’s premiership last season and currently sits third on this year’s log.

Parnham, 27, was originally licensed from Apr 1 through Aug 31, but saw his stint cut by nearly two months after he was injured at his very first ride at Kranji on Apr 24. After recovering in Perth, Parnham returned to Singapore and resumed riding at Kranji on Jun 12. He has since ridden two winners and was placed nine times from 97 rides.

Born in a well-known Perth racing family, Parnham was apprenticed to his father Neville, a 13-time champion trainer in the Western Australian city and WA Hall Of Fame inductee and he has two other brothers Steven and Chris, who are also jockeys.

Parnham has ridden more than 450 winners, including five at Group level, with the Group 2 Perth Cup aboard GUEST WING in 2011 and the Group 2 Karakatta Plate (2008) aboard BRAVE FORTUNE as the main highlights. He goes to scale at 51.5kgs.

Meanwhile six new ‘B’ Grade apprentice jockeys licences were also granted to the following for the term Sep 1 Dec 31.
