Stepitup claims Chairman's Trophy

STEPITUP staves off all challengers to win the Chairman's Trophy

STEPITUP's resurgence under trainer Laurie Laxon continued when he battled to victory in the Group 2 S$300,000 Chairman's Trophy (1800m) at Kranji here today.

Success in the weight-for-age event came just two weeks after he won the Group 3 Yee Tee Classic Stakes over the same distance.

It's the gelding's third group win this year since coming under Laxon in October last year, having also captured the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) last April.

In 2013, STEPITUP made a clean sweep of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Series, but came up just short in the Patrons' Bowl and Derby the following year.

"This is my fifth Chairman’s Trophy and it’s an achievement I take a lot of pride in," said Laxon who first won with HOEBERG in 2002 and went on to add three more with MOUNT STREET (2006), TOP SPIN (2008) and GOODMAN (2014).
