Royal Ruler takes charge again

Unplaced just once on 11 starts this season, vastly-improved ROYAL RULER scored his biggest win yet when successful in the Benchmark 97 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

Partnered by Barend Vorster, the American gelding came from just off the pace to win drawing away by half a length, justifying his favourite tag in a fairly strong field.

It was the four-year-old's fifth win of the year and seventh from 17 starts since he started racing two years ago.

Trainer Patrick Shaw had a second winner for the evening when BIG BROTHER took the next event but the South African was not at the course to witness the double.

"It’s been a few rough days for Pat, but I’m sure this double will help lift his spirits,” said assiattn trainer Ricardo Le Grange. "He had surgery on Wednesday and it was successful, thank God. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Although up a class after winning in Class 3 last time out, ROYAL RULER enjoyed a big drop in the handicap and that worked out in his favourite tonight.
