Sathiaa lands maiden win

KUANTAN HILL created an upset when he captured the Open Maiden event here today and gave apprentice Sathiaa Selan Muthalagan his maiden success as well.

The Australian gelding has been plagued by injuries and has started just 11 times since mid-2013 for two placings.

But Sathiaa, who was riding him for the first time today, struck a perfect understanding with the six-year-old, bringing the gelding from just off the pace early to win to win drawing away by 1 1/2 lengths.

KUANTAN HILL, who was bought for A$19,000 at the Horses In Training Sale, paid RM52.

PISCES STAR rebounded from a series of unplaced runs since the beginning of the year to take the main event.

Winner of six races in the past three seasons, the Australian gelding found one to beat in his first outing last January and has found it tough going amongst the best horses since.
