Gutsy win by Alibi in Patrons' Bowl

ALIBI is on course for a clean sweep of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge with another gutsy display in the S$500,000 Patrons' Bowl over 1600m at Kranji here today.

The New Zealand gelding had to work hard to land the first leg of the series, the $300,000 Stewards' Cup over 1400m last month.

ALIBI, ridden again by Glen Boss, had to dig deeper into his reserve to win the Group 1 contest by a short head in blanket finish. It was the seventh win in 12 starts for the gelding.

"I really respect this horse. He has such a great determination to win," said Boss. "He had a lovely run in transit. From the get-go, everything was executed to plan."

If ALIBI wins the Derby next month, he will create a bit of history. For no horse has achieved the Stewards' Cup-Patrons' Bowl-Derby treble.
