Leong starts day with hat-trick

Veteran trainer Leong Poh Keong made a superb start to the weekend's races when he saddled the winners of the first three races here this afternoon.

On top of that, he made of a clean sweep of the first three places in the Raphael Gold 1997 Handicap.

JETSTAR EAGLE landed just his second win in 37 starts in the opening event which saw apprentices filling the first four places.

Tham Kin Chong, who rode the winner, went on to complete a double in the next race astride EMPIRE BAY. The gelding bounced back to form after 10 months to record his sixth win in 58 starts.

Eight-year-old JOYFUL was also back in the winner's circle to land his ninth win in 70 starts, completing a hat-trick for Leong.
