TWICKENHAM holding off the challenge of MR FANTASTIC to win his second

TWICKENHAM bagged his first group win when he made all the running to capture the Group 3 Committee's Prize in September last year.

In the ensuing 12 months, the Australian gelding has raced just seven times, including today's 1600m contest.

While he was well-backed last year when truly tested to win by a nose, TWICKENHAM started at long odds today.

With last year's winning jockey Vlad Duric engaged on Gold Cup winner QUECHUA, apprentice Wong Chin Chuen took the ride on the seven-year-old.

Wong adopted the same tactics Duric used last year, leading from start to finish but this time, the winner had half a length to spare at the post. He paid $167.

"I’m so rapt. It’s taken him 12 months to win this race again," said trainer Stephen Gray. "He had been working well and was back to his form of last year when he won that race. "

For former top Malaysian apprentice Wong, It was his first group win since moving to Singapore. "’I'm very pleased I won my first Group race. He had no weight on his back and the plan was to go forward."
