Skywalk sweeps to KRA Trophy win

Korean runner TODAY prevented a 1-2-3 finish for local horses by grabbing third place in the S$250,000 Korea Racing Authority Trophy over 1200m on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

It was the first time since the inter-country race was launched in 2014 that a Korean runner has finished in the money.

Top-rated SKYWALK justified his favourite tag to beat next best rated RAFAELLO by half a length with the other second highest rated runner, VIAVIANO, finishing fourth.

SKYWALK, who finished down the field in the Lion City Cup on May 26, bounced back to form to notch his seventh win in 16 starts for China Horse Club Stable who paid NZ$100,000 for him at the Ready To Run sale.

"I put a ring around this race right after the Lion City Cup. It was the perfect race for him given the conditions of the race,” said trainer James Peters. "Barrier 11 was the only concern, but Vlad (Duric) couldn’t have given him a better ride."

Korean bred TODAY came to Singapore with an amazing record of 10 wins and two placings in 13 starts in Korea. A breakthrough win for Korean runners in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy may not be far off.
