Top Knight too good in Singapore Guineas

TOP KNIGHT lived up to his top billing to claim the S$800,000 Singapore Guineas at Kranji here this evening.

After his hard-fought victory in the Singapore 3YO Classic, the Zouster gelding had a relatively easier win in the final leg of the Singapore 3YO Challenge. He narrowly missed out on a clean sweep as he was beaten a short head by BOLD THRUSTER in the 3YO Sprint (1200m) last month.

It's now six wins in nine starts for TOP KNIGHT who was purchased for A$130,000 at the 2YO Horses In Training Sale.

"He took a bit of time to wind up and was looking to make hard work of it, but he quickened up good and was very strong to the line," said trainer Michael Clements. "He’s definitely looking for longer distances now. It was fantastic to win a Group 1 on such a big night."

"He’s a very good horse who’s getting better and better. He had a good run at the back, but I did have to push him down the back to hold his position," said jckey Vlad Duric. "I think he could be a Gold Cup horse."
